Junior Achievement History

Junior Achievement was introduced in 1919 by Horace A. Moses, a U.S. Industrialist. It is an international organization which operates in over 100 countries worldwide.

Junior Achievement of Newfoundland and Labrador is one of 14 charters in Canada. It was first established in 1985 as Junior Achievement of Metro St. John's, and became Junior Achievement of Newfoundland and Labrador with the expansion to Western Newfoundland and Labrador in 1987 and Central Newfoundland in 1989. Even though JANL held one charter, each of these three incorporated divisions were governed and staffed independently until their amalgamation in 2000. This amalgamantion has been crutial to our growth and development.

Another arm of Junior Achievement of Newfoundland and Labrador is the Newfoundland and Labrador Business Hall of Fame. Established in 1990, the Business Hall of Fame is the premier celebration of business in Newfoundland and Labrador. This annual dinner and induction ceremony has been, and continues to be, the largest of our special event fund raisers in support of JA programming.

Junior Achievement of Newfoundland and Labrador has a main administrative site in St. John's. Area committees established throughout the province are cruitial to our expansion. A full suite of programs is delivered to more than 6,500 young people in our schools in partnership with volunteer business consultants.
